Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo

Tickets | Thursday | March 20 | 2014 | 7:30 P.M.

Founded in 1974 by a group of ballet enthusiasts for the purpose of presenting a playful, entertaining view of traditional, classical ballet in parody form (and en travesty), The Trocks, as they have come to be known, first performed in the late-late shows in Off-Off Broadway lofts. They quickly garnered a major critical essay in The New Yorker, and combined with reviews in The New York Times and The Village Voice, established the Company as an artistic and popular success.  Very soon their inspired blend of a loving knowledge of dance, a comic approach, and the astounding fact that men can, indeed, dance en pointe without falling flat on their faces, earned them a permanent slot in the dance world.

The Newman Center presented them to a sold-out house in 2008, and now they’re back!  Ballet is rarely funny, but The Trocks are — very.
