Play and Play – An Evening of Movement and Music
Play and Play showcases Bill T. Jones’ brilliantly inventive choreography set to some of the most enduring music of the ages, including works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, and a recent string octet by Jerome Begin that combines motifs from Beethoven’s first and last string quartets with recorded sounds to create a surprising soundscape. The distinguished director and choreographer has shaped the evolution of contemporary dance over the past three decades, garnering MacArthur ‘genius,’ Obie, and Tony awards, as well as a Kennedy Center Honors. The evening’s repertory includes D-Man in the Waters (1989), a joyful tour de force and genuine classic of modern dance. All the music will be performed live by students of the Lamont School of Music.
